Yihan Wang is a composer based in Cambridge, UK, whose work searches to reveal a vivified, creaturely nature of acoustic instruments and electroacoustic sounds through a hyper-lyrical, deeply melodic core. He is currently pursuing a PhD in composition at Cambridge University under Prof. Marta Gentilucci, having previously received his Master of Music from Goldsmiths, University of London, and his Bachelor of Arts from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. Beyond the score, Wang maintains a practice in fine-art photography and experimental moving image, disciplines that continually inform and nourish his compositional perspective.

Embracing a surplus of cross-cultural and sonic experiences, Wang treads a unique path between flourishing timbral worlds and a highly personal gestural language. He strives for a psychological depth in his music that rejects overly methodical mannerisms, seeking instead to resonate with organic, natural forms. While his sonic signature is shaped by recent technical advancements, he maintains a profound engagement with pure form and kinetic tension, often treating his ensembles as unified, holistic "meta-instruments."

Wang's recent portfolio demonstrates a thriving international presence. He has received commissions and significant performances from the Riot Ensemble (UK), Vertixe Sonora (Spain) at the Rafel Festival, and Imago Sonora (Italy) for the Nuovo Consonanza - Franco Evangelisti competition. Recently, joining his parallel practice as a visual artist with his composition, he was commissioned by the Henry Royce Institute in Cambridge to create an audiovisual piece for experimental film and electronics. Beyond composing, Wang is an active pianist, improviser, and a dedicated organizer for new music.

Situated within a fractured world, Wang rejects the confines of fleeting academic trends that often overshadow intrinsic musical excellence. Instead, he pursues the realization of an internal sonic ideal. Through an unwavering devotion to his craft, Wang acts as an artistically nurturing force—creating music that explores profound philosophical boundaries and reaches toward awe-inducing transcendence.
